Vignettes from around the Spencer Museum

My sketchbook entry from February 1.

My sketchbook entry from February 1.

On Sunday we took a quick jaunt to the Spencer Museum of Art. We hadn't yet seen the James Turrell: Gard Blue exhibit, so we experienced that and also toured some of the other exhibits. I enjoyed seeing Albert Bloch: Prints and Drawings. His line quality intrigued me and reminded me of my sketchbook entry from the day before. Also while there, I suddenly wanted to photograph vignettes of particular paintings, as seen in the slide show.

The past couple days have been snow days, as we have a fresh coat of fourteen inches of snow on the ground. I am appreciating the extra time to work on a canvas painting that is in progress. Throughout the process, I have been taking pictures of the stages. It changes so much! At times I get lost in pushing the buttery oil paint around. Then I step back and am either encouraged, thinking it's on track, or the opposite, wondering where it is going. It's really pushing me. When the painting is finished, I will share those process photos with you here.
